Breeding potatoes
DEN HARTIGH represents the potato varieties developed by the potato breeding station IJSSELMEERPOLDERS. The breeding programme pays great attention to the broad application of the varieties in the diverse climate areas and market segments. The well-equipped breeding station works in close cooperation with a group of professional private breeders. Together they develop the varieties of the future.Only the best is good enough
Resistance to Phytopthora, wart disease, nematodes (such as Globodera pallida) and scab are important selection criteria in our breeding programme. In addition, storability and tolerance to bacterial diseases are important issues. We test this through setting up global testing fields under the most diverse climates.
'Low input' varieties
Varieties with 'low input' reduce the use of chemicals and fertilizers. Not only does this have a beneficial effect on the potato grower's cost price, it is also good for the environment. We pay a great deal of attention on that front through participating in projects.
